About Janetta
I am first and foremost a practitioner but over the years have had many strands to my work. I have taught therapists and written and developed post-graduate courses at a number of teaching institutions both in the UK and abroad; I held the position of Course Coordinator at Raworth College for 8 years until leaving to concentrate on my practice.
In recent years I have developed a deep interest in working with women who are experiencing difficulties conceiving or have undergone the terrible pain of a pregnancy loss. My clinical work in this area led me to write my most recent book Pregnancy Loss: a guide to what complementary and alternative medicine can offer which can be ordered here
In 2006 I published my first book, a dermatology textbook for aromatherapists which I co-wrote (Aromadermatology - aromatherapy in the treatment and care of common skin conditions).
Having initially qualified in aromatherapy and reflexology in 1995, I went on to study acupuncture and Chinese medicine, gaining a Licentiate in Acupuncture in 1998 and later a Masters degree (MSc) in Chinese herbal medicine from Westminster University. I hold a postgraduate Certificate in Obstetric Acupuncture, issued in conjunction with the Royal College of Midwives. For my MSc thesis, I undertook work that explored in depth the use of Chinese herbal medicine in modern gynaecology treatments.
I have studied with leading figures in the fields of fertility and pregnancy traditional medicine including: Zita West, Debra Betts, Jane Lyttleton, Sarah Budd, Jeffery Yuen. In addition, I regularly attend lectures on western medicine relating to my interests; this extends and deepens my awareness and appreciation of how traditional medicine can effectively work in conjunction with modern techniques and approaches.
As a member of the Acupuncture Fertility Network, an alliance dedicated to the promotion of traditional acupuncture in support of fertility and pregnancy, I am committed to regular continuing professional development in these specialist areas.
I am proud to be a full member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the largest professional organisation in the UK representing practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Until I qualified in herbal medicine, I was a full member of the British Acupuncture Council for over 10 years.

Interests
I have many interests outside of my work, including a long standing love of gardening, although like many people I never feel as if I spend enough time as I'd like to doing this. Other interests include photography, swimming, especially outdoors, good food and wine, environmental issues and when I'm not involved in any of the above, you'll find me with a good book with our much loved dogs and cat keeping me company. |
