Breech or malpositioning
If your baby is in a breech position, or is malpositioned it is certainly worth considering having acupuncture between weeks 34 - 36. Treatment is simple and in many cases effective and by comparison to the conventional intervention (external manual version) without risk. The treatment involves moxibustion, the practice or burning a herb (mugwort) around your little toes - it may sound weird, but remarkably, such a simple treatment does work! In the first session, I show you what to do, send you away with your instructions and the moxa and you continue the treatment at home for approximately the next 10 days. As a traditional acupuncturist, I seek to look at the underlying causes of the malposition and malpresentation and use classical teachings dating back thousands of years to provide you with the best chance of correcting the position.
Although the moxibustion treatment may seem odd to our modern minds, there is a growing body of convincing research evidence confirming it works and perhaps most importantly is very safe. It is becoming increasingly used by some midwives, both in the UK and extensively by those in New Zealand.
There are some situations where it is not appropriate to receive moxibustion for breech presentations, and it is important that these are checked before you have any treatment, so please contact me to discuss your case.
